The design hub is located on the historic carlton united breweries site. The hub is a stunning new building designed by sean godsell and peddle thorp architects. Through exhibitions conversations performances and publications we explore the process of design making space to imagine test and risk new ideas together. Completed in may 2012 the design hub was designed by sean godsell architects in association with peddle thorp architects.

The design hub is one of the newest and most iconic of rmit buildings. The purpose of the design hub is to provide accommodation in one building for a diverse range of design research and post graduate education. Sean godsell architects rmit design hub functions as both a building and declaration demostrating godsell s ideals of design architecture spatial drama and materiality. The building featured prominently in the science fiction film predestination.

The hub provides a collegial research base where post graduates in fields such as fabric and fashion design will work alongside those involved in architecture aeronautical engineering industrial design landscape. The building was designed to provide a collaborative space across a number of disciplines including design and engineering. Rmit design hub is covered in sandblasted glass discs rimmed with cylindrical steel rings serving as a model of passive design. Located on the historic carlton united breweries site it was completed in 2012.

Rmit design hub sports an operable glass and steel facade architecture. Rmit design hub gallery exists to ask questions about design s role in the world today. The façade comprises of a specifically detailed double glazed inner skin on each face of the building and an automated operable second skin shading device.

The purpose of the 12 000m 2 8 storey design hub is to provide accommodation within one building for a diverse range of design research and post graduate education at the rmit. The second skin shading device surrounds the entire building from the ground floor to the roof level.
